Problems and solutions within the choreographic process
One of the problems we have faced so far in our choreographic process is pathways and collisions. From 1 minute on during the bad memory section, there is a point where we have 3 counts to get from a diagonal line into lines of three, four and two. However, the places in the diagonal line which were in height order did not compliment the the places of the next formation. We couldn't change the diagonal line as there was only one true line of height but we did change the places of the next formation by swapping myself and Olivia around. This meant we could travel to our places with ease and no collisions
Another problem we faced was the time that it took to teach pieces of choreography. As people were teaching their sections of choreography, issues that they would potentially face were not considered and therefore it took more time in class to resolve the issues that could have been prevented beforehand. This means overall we would have less time until the assessment for our choreography. I think what could be done is that the person who is choreographing next could consider any issues before teaching and then when in the studio their priority should be teaching and not ‘cleaning/polishing’ as this can be done later down the line when we have all secured the choreography.
One more problem that we had were absences. Now obviously some absences aren't planned either because of an emergency or last minute decision, however for known time out of school some things can be done so that choreography can still be taught in class and the person absent can still learn. This is simply just by videoing the choreography so far. The person absent could possibly have time of school for an injury and therefore is prohibited from dancing/moving, however having video evidence of new choreography can still be helpful for them to visualise it and secure it in their minds before mirroring it onto their body. Another problem we face is that the person absent is supposed to be teaching some choreography that nobody else is familiar with yet. This can be easily solved by, again videoing the content or thoroughly describing the movement so that we in class can interpret it as best as possible without the choreographer.
Great discussion on issues that have arisen and the things you will to combat this. Can we see some diagrams showing us the issues and the solutions you discuss with pathways and spaces? Can you reference the current climate issues that are affecting the time in the studio. You could upload the video of your choreography to this blog to show how you are combating the minimal studio time.
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog! I really like how you discussed a good range of problems in detail that we faced in class and what we did to resolve them, I also think it was great you also expanded on this talking about how going forwards this can be avoided. You could maybe add in some visual sketched diagrams of pathways and spacing and show the new pathways and spacing to show how we adapted the material.
ReplyDeleteAnother great blog! I liked how you discussed a range of issues in detail and also included how these issues might be avoided in the future. You could also talk about issues you might of faced within your own sections of the piece and how you resolved them. (:
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor, great blog well done! Maybe you could mention if you had any challenges whilst choreographing your section and how you resolved them.
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor, amazing post! The level of detail is great, next time maybe talk about how these issues would effect the audience’s visual experience of the piece. Well done!
