Structuring our Piece

What is the structure of our choreographic piece and how did we develop it?

During our choreography class, we all as a group came together to discuss how we should structure our choreographic piece. Firstly, we listened to our chosen piece of music and took note of the elements in the song. For example, the instrument/s used at that time, the pauses and the tempo. Once we were aware of all these elements and when they happened we could create a sort of story line for our piece and give it an initial structure. After we had created this initial structure/story line, we could decide who was going to choreograph certain parts. Overall this makes the choreography process easier as everyone can take time outside of class to work on their assigned part and then bring it back into class to teach to everyone.

What are we going to have to do to fulfil the structure we have created?

To fulfil this structure/story line we have created, we are going to have to carefully craft pieces of choreography in conjunction to not only the structure but the music too. For example, at 2 minutes 47 seconds in the music changes and gives a sense of urgency and desperation. To make a piece of choreography for this music and compliment it structure, it would have to include high energy levels and strong sudden movements to show the struggle. Another example would be at 3 minutes 25 seconds in when the music begins to soften and return to how it was in the beginning. Choreography used during this part of the music would have to be quite calm with low energy levels to compliment our theme of the issue being resolved or  concealed.

  1. Hi Taylor, another great Blog! Was again really easy to follow and read, and was explained in detail. I like how you mentioned the different points in the music and how the instruments and tempo will work in relation to the choreography. For next time maybe you could go into more detail about the specific sections and how we decided the story line for each of the sections. You could also talk about what ideas you have so far for your specific sections :)

  2. I enjoy the different elements of music are they are references you could use to show us where you got this information from? Is there any research that shows the relationship between music and the reason why it makes us feel certain emotions that might show how you came up with your storyboard? Your image isn't loading.

  3. Another great blog Taylor! I liked how you referenced the music when talking about the structure of the piece. It might be nice to describe the individual sections and what they represent. :)

  4. Hi Taylor, great blog, really easy to read. For next time maybe just go into a little more detail as to what each sections are and maybe explain what section you were given and what you plan on doing with that section. Well done!
